I love love. I love being in love, witnessing others falling in love—just the mere thought of love makes my heart swoon. From a young age I was always boy crazy. I was that girl in kindergarten chasing the boys down to plant a smooch on their cheeks, whether they liked it or not! I’ve been lucky in life as far as having great experiences with love. And of course since what goes up sometimes comes down, I’ve also had quite my share of devastating heartbreaks.
There’s nothing like your first true love. Mine came into my life one magical summer when I was seventeen. I’d come to LA on a dance scholarship at the Edge Performing Arts Center. They’d chosen ten people from around the world to come down that summer, and I was ecstatic to be one of them. I was living my best life, learning from the top teachers in Los Angeles. I didn’t realize it then but now I know that because of that scholarship, I became the dancer I am today. That trip was not, however, all about dance. I met Corbin, an actor, and it was instant true summer romance at its finest. It was my first feeling of what can best be described as puppy love. I’m sure my pupils were heart-shaped that entire summer. Corbin was fun and vivacious. He swept me off my feet, taking me on fun, music-filled drives in his open-air Jeep. At seventeen, I thought, This is it I found my person, the be-all and end-all of my life! When I returned home, Corbin and I kept in touch. He sent me flowers and we wrote love letters. But then, one day, I realized I was seventeen and became distracted by very important things like the prom. And in a breath I went from the best feeling in the world to the absolute worst. I thought I could never in a million years love again. Who would want to, if this bottom-of-the-well feeling was all you were left with in the end?
Of course, as much as I doubted and feared that I wouldn’t, I did fall in love again, and many relationships later I got married, too. My mom always used to remind me after each breakup that less than a year after Corbin I was happy and feeling love again. That’s how it works with love. One of the greatest things about love is how it transforms and evolves. It never looks the way you think it will; then it always comes back around in another form. Love can and will happen again. And I love that!
Since I love love, I also love raw chocolate, because it is high in phenylethylamine, aka the love chemical, which has been proven to make us feel blissful and full of passion.
